Color Copier Toner
Copiers and printers use different methods for creating the image on the page that comes out during the process of copying. In regular printers or copiers, liquid ink that is stored in a cartridge is used, and the cartridge is removed and replaced when the ink runs out.
In a color copier toner is used in place of ink. Toner is a fine powder that also comes in cartridges for use in copiers or printers. In a color copier toner comes in four different colors, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. The four of these colors combine to make any color you may wish to have printed on your paper.
Because color copier toners are not liquid, they must be bonded to the surface of the page in a different way than in inkjet printers. Toner must be heated to bond to paper or any other surface. Copiers using toner are called laser printers because the laser that scans across the page heats the ink, bonding it to the paper in the proper pattern.
Keeping this rule in mind, what happens if you get toner powder on your skin or clothing? Isn’t the typical reaction to wash it off with soap and warm water? Well, in this case, you may only make matter worse. Remember it is heat that causes the powder to bond, so using warm or hot water will do just that: bond the ink to your hand or shirt, or whatever it is you are trying to wash it out of! Instead, be sure to rinse your skin or clothing with cold water to wash it off and prevent bonding.
In general, laser copier toner is less expensive than the ink that is used in other copy machines. Still there is a range of different brands that make color copier toner, and they vary in price as well as in quality of printing. Ask for advice from a retailer or look for reviews online to find where the best ink at the best price can be found.
Toner cartridges, of course, are replaceable. Your machine will let you know when it’s time for a new cartridge. You can find remanufactured cartridges which are basically just recycled cartridges that have been refilled with toner. It’s also possible to refill toner cartridges on your own. You can purchase toner in bulk, either in drums or bags to store for use when refills are necessary.
When buying toner for your color copier, shop around for good deals and quality products. Ask questions and do your research. Every time you buy toner take note of where you got it, the price and your level of satisfaction. You want to know what and where to buy and what brands and retailers to avoid.
